My mom is pretty good with tech but she asked what modem she\u00a0should purchase. I left her instructions fairly vague\u00a0and told her to order any DOSIS 3 compatible modem from Amazon or eBay.<br \/>\nShe ended up purchasing\u00a0a\u00a0SMCD3GN2. It arrived fine, however the device defaults into gateway mode. This creates a double NAT. This is sort of an issue for me as prior I dropped an ASUS router into my parents house with a VPN server that I could get logged into from my house. I could forward ports from one to the other, but this is messy. I want one device for boarder network control.<br \/>\nWhen you go to configure this modem\/gateway all the documentation says use login cusadmin\/password for default. This is fine but it doesn&#8217;t give you many options. You have very little control over the device and can&#8217;t even disable the gateway\/modem mode. You can&#8217;t configure what IPs the device issues.<br \/>\nI did some searching and found another login<br \/>\nusername\u00a0<strong>mso<\/strong> with the password <strong>msopassword<\/strong><br \/>\nThis unlocked all the settings of the gateway\/modem and I was able to disable gatway mode.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.postinger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/SMCD3GN2-big-e1445725834329.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-709 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.postinger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/SMCD3GN2-big-e1445725834329.jpg\" alt=\"SMCD3GN2-big\" width=\"107\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About two months back my mother called me and said her cable company wants her to buy a DOSIS 3.0 compatible modem.
