So I took my macbook into Briarwood in Ann Arbor. The ‘genius’ ran a few quick tests including screen burn in- the test passed, suggesting there was no problem. I had him send it out to service anyways.
After 3 days it came back with a new screen. This time a Samsung. I can’t see any ghosting now.
Also, today OS X Mavericks launched – the coolest new feature is using your AppleTV as a second monitor and not just a mirror, actually to extend your display. The download is just over 5 gigs – the install took about 35 minutes.

 

So after about 10 months I noticed this cool ghosting issue on the my MBP  – after some research it seems to be pretty common on LG displays.

in the terminal – ioreg -lw0 | grep \”EDID\” | sed “/[^<]*</s///” | xxd -p -r | strings -6
suggests I have an LG screen.
